The Vicar of Dibley THE VICAR OF DIBLEY

FINAL SPECIALS: First broadcast 2004 - 2007

2004 Christmas Special: Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas - The vicar covered in chocolate It's Geraldine's 10th anniversary at Dibley. Hugo has the bright idea of villagers writing a new Christmas carol, which Geraldine meets with enthusiasm.

David tells Geraldine that she ought to be bishop by now, and mentions that he has a friend in the Archbishop of Canterbury. Geraldine and Alice talk about which celebrity they'd fancy if they were gay, and Geraldine votes for Rachel Hunter. Bad move: Rachel drops by unexpectedly and needs to change, so when Alice walks into the house Rachel walks downstairs wearing only her underwear!

Alice, mis-reading what she saw, tells the Parish Council that Geraldine is gay and they're worried this is most inappropriate. Frank tells Geraldine that he doesn't want to bore her celebratory party so he's decided not to go. She feels very sorry for him and invites him to do the keynote speech! Astoundingly, when he does this, it's to the point. Geraldine is provided with a chocolate fountain which she enthusiastically dives into, but then she has to un-expectedly greet the Archbishop of Canterbury covered in chocolate!

Geraldine becomes very depressed when she thinks she's blown any chance of promotion so she gets outstandingly drunk before midnight mass and her performance there almost matches Jim's new song for embarrassment value!

"Praise the Lord! He's coming down the birth canal! Here he comes! Wheeeee! Look: the Madonna's fully dilated! She shall not need an episiotomy. Praise the Lord! Clean up the mess and cut the cord."
The winning song of the Dibley new carol competition, by Jim

First broadcast: 25th Dec 2004. Guest starring Rachel Hunter

2005 Special: Happy New Year

Happy New Year - the males in kilts Geraldine tells the villagers that she wants to support the Make Poverty History campaign by having them all write letters to the Prime Minister. This leads onto a discussion about who the Prime Minister is, because the villagers haven't kept up with the changes of the various British Prime Ministers over the past 15 years.

Meanwhile, it's Geraldine's birthday and, despite her protesting against their celebrating her 40th, the villagers are determined to plan a nice surprise for her. Their bright idea is to buy her a ticket for a (very cheap) speed-dating event. Upon arrival, Geraldine is told that there's a real shortage of men, but she finds that she's in competition with a blonde bimbo, which, unfortunately, her desired man wants instead of her: the other men there are all the men of Dibley!

Because she's left disappointed by this, the villagers rally around her to make her feel better: Hugo's offers to impregnate her in order to give her a baby as a birthday present and make feel better! And, in case she doesn't fancy him, Frank, Owen and Jim are standing in reserve to impregnate her, in kilts! She turns down the kind offer!

"Erm, Jim, you've very kindly offered to have some of the poorest people actually come and stay with you... right, you've stipulated here you want anyone hungry and female and between the ages of 16 and 22, preferably of Oriental extraction."
Jim's sexual tastes are exposed through his attempts at charity work

First broadcast: 1st Jan 2005

2005 Comic Relief Special: Antiques Roadshow

2005 Comic Relief - The Smurf figure on Antiques Roadshow The BBC come to Dibley to film an episode of The Antiques Roadshow in the village. The residents of Dibley are very excited by this and join in excitedly with the spirit of the programme by bringing rather strange things to be valued: Owen brings a badger trap, the purpose of which he describes in brutal detail; Jim brings a bag of food, thinking he's appearing on Ready, Steady, Cook, and asks the presenters to cook it for him.

Alice is excited at the chance to have her Papa Smirf model, given by her father, valued on the programme, because she says that the value of the Papa Smirf model will show how much he loved her. Worried that Alice will be hurt when she finds out how little the toy is worth, she asks The Antiques Roadshow people to lie in order to value it at a lot more than the 50p it's probably worth. They value it at £2000, so Alice wants to sell it an antiques shop and give the money to comic relief. Geraldine offers to do so for her, and sells her own antique ring and T.V. set to scrape together the £2000, very begrudgingly indeed.

"Dear Sir or Madam, or Sir who has recently discovered his true sexuality and has now become 'Madam'..."
David's sarcastic letter to the "British Bloody-Lefties Conspiracy" (aka The BBC)

First broadcast: 1th March 2005 (Approx 10 minutes)

2006 Christmas Special: The Handsome Stranger

The Handsome Stranger Geraldine decides to bring a bit of culture to the parish by forming a book club - the only downside being, it means the likes of foul-mouthed farmer Owen actually reading a book. Remarkably though, dippy Alice manages to decipher the clues in The Da Vinci Code, and concludes that she's the last living relative of Christ.

However, Geraldine soon has more pressing matters on her mind - namely the number of fashionable 'townies' buying weekend cottages in the village. But her thoughts turn from revolt to romance when her head is turned by a particularly charming newcomer (Richard Armitage) and it soon becomes clear he feels the same about her.

First broadcast: 25th Dec 2006

2007 Final Special: The Vicar in White

The Vicar in White At last the Vicar will attend a wedding in a dress, not a dog collar. Or will she? Unfortunately the vicar Geraldine has chosen for the service seems a bit too fond of her. And the villagers have waited till now to suggest their worst two ideas ever - a sky-diving wedding and something far, far worse!
