ALBERT
STEPTOE
played by Wilfrid
Brambell |
 |
Dirty, rude and lazy rag-and-bone man Albert Steptoe spent
all his time disapproving of his son and maintaining a vice
like grip on him by pretending to be "old and feeble"
when required. Really cunning and devious Albert would always
get his way and avoid doing any work, driving his son mad
in the process.
Brambell played being old, scruffy and full of spite to perfection.
His performance was probably helped though by his genuine
dislike of Harry .H. Corbett though.

HAROLD
STEPTOE
played by Harry
H. Corbett |
 |
Both home and work were a prison for Harold as there was
no way of escaping his father, Albert. Always short of money,
life was hard for Harold and to make matters worse he new
that his cunning father would always maintain a grip on his
life whilst he was alive. Harold did have a long-term relationship
but that too was ruined by his father.
Harry .H. Corbett also put in great performances week in week
out but unfortunately became so well known as Harold Steptoe
that the part overshadowed him in other productions.
