II) - First broadcast 1988 |
1. Kryten
When Red Dwarf receives a distress call from a crashed space
ship, Nova 5, Lister, Rimmer and Cat jump at the chance to
finally meet some women. When they get there, however, they
discover that the female crew have been dead for years and
the only lifeform left on board is an Android called Kryten.
They decide to rescue him and take him back to Red Dwarf,
where he quickly takes over with the cleaning and the cooking.
Lister soon puts a stop to this, though, by showing him how
to rebel - Especially against Rimmer!
|
Best Quote: Lister picks up his boxer shorts
that Kryten has washed and ironed.
Lister - "No way are these my boxer shorts.
These bend!" |
First broadcast: 6th Sep 1988

2. Better Than Life
When the Red Dwarf post pod finally arrives on the ship three
million years late (Although as Holly says "That's about
average for a second class post!") the crew discover
it contains the video game 'Better Than Life' which means
they can travel to the land of paradise and engage in all
their fantasies and dreams. Everything is going well. Cat's
found a girlfriend, Marilyn Monroe fancies him, and Lister's
got a vibrating water bed in the shape of a guitar; but things
soon start to go wrong when Rimmer's mind rejects all happiness
and turns his best wishes into his worse nightmares!
|
Best Quote: Rimmer talking about the meal
he attempted to cook.
Rimmer - "Well, a highly enjoyable meal
all round. Obviously you can't expect perfection first
time, but I was quite delighted with how my dumplings
went down."
Lister - "Rimmer, real dumplings, proper
dumplings when they're properly cooked to perfection,
proper dumplings, should not bounce." |
First broadcast: 13th Sep 1988

3. Thanks For The Memory
After getting very drunk at his own Deathday party, Rimmer
confesses to Lister that he's only been with one woman in
his entire life. Feeling sorry for him, Lister transfers three
months of his own memory into Rimmer's memory, which make
him believe he was with a girl called Lise Yates for that
amount of time. When he finds out it was all lies, they bury
the memory of Lise Yates on an empty planet, and erase their
own memories. Of course, doing this, they lose four days and
can't quite remember how the Red Dwarf puzzle got finished
or who broke Lister and the Cat's legs!
|
Best Quote: Rimmer trying to ask Holly for
the rather unusual triple fried egg sandwich with chilli
sauce and chutney.
Rimmer - "I want a triple fried egg sandwich
with ..."
Lister - "With chilli sauce and chutney."
Holly - "You what?"
Lister - "It's a state of the art sarny."
Holly - "It's the state of the floor I'm
worried about." |
First broadcast: 20th Sep 1988

4. Stasis Leak
When Holly discovers a stasis leak on floor 16 of Red Dwarf,
Lister, Cat and Rimmer proceed to go and investigate. It turns
out the stasis leak has leaked into the shower room on the
day that the Red Dwarf crew were wiped out, three million
years ago and enables the Dwarfers to go back to see their
old crewmates. Lister, trying to woe Kochanski back for the
sake of how long they may have together, goes to try and find
her but discovers that she's already married to another version
of him.
|
Best Quote: The Cat looks down at a naked
man in the shower room.
Cat - "Don't worry. It's personality that
counts."
|
First broadcast: 27th Sep 1988

5. Queeg
The Dwarfers are fed up of Holly. For a computer who has
supposedly got an IQ of 6000, he doesn't seem to be very intelligent.
So it seems as if their luck has turned when Holly's rescue
replacement, Queeg, takes over the running of the ship instead.
However, they soon change their minds when he makes the Cat
and Lister work for their food and Rimmer get up at 6.00am
each morning! They are despairing when it seems Holly is going
to be erased entirely, and then he reveals that Queeg was
him all along. The moral of the story, according to Holly,
was: "Appreciate what you've got, cos basically I'm fantastic."
|
Best Quote: When Lister tells the Cat to
wear gloves to keep his hands protected.
Cat - "Marigold with blue, are you crazy!?"
|
First broadcast: 4th Oct 1988
|
6. Parallel Universe
Holly invents a device called the "Holly Hop Drive",
enabling the Dwarfers to travel to a parallel universe and
discover a female Lister and a female Rimmer. Unfortunately
for Cat, the only opposite he got was a dog! Imagine the hilarity
of Rimmer's female self flirting with him, the Cat hanging
out with a smelly flea-ridden dog and Lister becoming pregnant!
Oh, and make sure you don't miss the Tongue Tied dance at
the beginning of the episode.
|
Best Quote: Deb Lister explaining male pregnancy.
Deb - "It's the man's responsibility. It's
the man who gets pregnant. It's the man who has to suffer
the agony of childbirth.
Rimmer - "Agony! This gets better and better!". |
