SERIES 6 - First broadcast 19941. Nice Work If You Can Get It Zoë wants to go back to work but Alec is dead against it. Miss Flood meanwhile is trying to find a replacement for Hilary who has moved to The Isle of Wight to be near Derek (who is in jail there). Simone is helping out in the office on a temporary basis much to the annoyance of Alec and Jamie. Miss Flood finally manages to find a replacement, Rosie McConnichy a Scottish lass from the highlands who is almost as neurotic as her predecessor! First broadcast: 22nd April 1994 Note: This was the first appearance of Rosie, played by the then unknown Ashley Jensen who is of course now better known for her roles in Extras and Ugly Betty. 2. Take Good Care of My Baby Zoë is going back to work, which poses the awkward question of who's going to look after Fleur whilst Alec and Zoë are a work. Efforts to find a Nanny approve futile and Zoë is not at all happy about the idea of Fleur being left with Simone. She changes her mind when she and Alec attend a birthday party at the vicarage and find Simone filling in for the clown very successfully. Zoë realises she's been foolish and agrees to allow Simone to be Fleur's nanny. First broadcast: 29th April 1994 3. Son Of My Father Alec is persuaded by Zoë to give careers talk at school about being a solicitor. Alec reluctantly agrees but soon has a crisis on his hands when Jamie announces he wants to leave the profession. Alec is disappointed, upset and angry with Jamie for giving in so easily, just because he isn't dealing with big cases every day like Perry Mason. Zoë persuades Jamie to attend Alec's talk. Alec, on seeing Jamie at the back of the hall, gives a different speech to his original and says that being a solicitor is dull, sometimes very dull but the reason he does it is because he is doing something for his community and even though what he does is usually very small it does make a difference and that is what makes it worthwhile. Alec's talk may not have enticed any of the kids into the law but it certainly gets Jamie back into it. Father and Son make up. First broadcast: 6th May 1994 4. Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White Dot, Zoë's mother turns up at Alec and Zoë's and announces she has left her husband as he cares more about his Fruit and Veg than he does about her. Alec at first enjoys having his mother-in-law about the house as she keeps it clean and has dinner ready for him when he gets home. Zoë however finds it irritating and decides that she and Alec have to try and reconcile her parents. Alec goes round to see his father-in-law and tries to get him to win his wife back but Zoë's dad can't see what he's done wrong and thinks she should apologise to him. He later has a change of heart and he is soon outside Alec and Zoë's serenading his wife and wooing her back! First broadcast: 13th May 1994 5. Let the Heartaches Begin Jamie is trying to persuade Alec to try out a new business plan for the firm but Alec soon has other things to worry about, more important things... Zoë has decided to play matchmaker between Debbie and a single parent from her school. The man in question however seems rather more interested in Zoë herself which leads Alec to feels rather jealous and insecure. After all they seem to have more in common than he and Zoë do and also more importantly they are closer in age. Is Alec and Zoë's 'May to December' romance starting to crumble? First broadcast: 20th May 1994 6. Until It's Time For You To Go Miss Flood has been working for Semple, Callender and Henty/Callender for thirty years and is convinced everyone has forgotten or doesn't care. The truth is they have forgotten but not for long. Jamie organises a This is Your Life style party for Miss Flood at the office. Alec meanwhile has decided to leave Zoë and make way for a younger man. The party is a huge success and Miss Flood is delighted. There is a further surprise when Zoë turns up in front of everyone thanks Miss Flood for being one of the few who didn't laugh at her and Alec's relationship or declare it wouldn't last and had faith in them all along. Alec realises what a fool he's been. He and Zoë go outside and talk. They discuss their relationship and how far they've come. Who'd have thought a 53-year-old widowed solicitor and a 26-year-old divorced PE teacher would have fallen in love and also have made it work?!? Alec takes his wife in his arms and kisses her.
