List of UK TV ChannelsListed below are the UK TV channels which show British comedy. British Broadcasting Corporation (The BBC) The BBC is Britain's biggest broadcaster. They run numerous radio stations and 12 TV channels in the UK - The corporation's main four channels are where British sitcoms can be found. BBC1 broadcasts the sitcoms with mass appeal (like "My Family") and BBC2 displays more cult sitcoms (such as "Alan Partridge"). Meanwhile BBC3 (formally BBC Choice) is currently used as a testing ground for more experimental comedy (i.e. "15 Storeys High") and is where teen comedies like "Two Pints of Lager" are shown. BBC4 does not show many sitcoms however the occasional high-brow sitcom such as "Yes, Prime Minister " is broadcast. Before the four channels existed all BBC sitcoms were on BBC1. Independent Television (ITV)
ITV is the biggest commercial television network in the UK, made up of 15 independent regions which include Carlton, Granada, LWT, Thames and Yorkshire. In August 2001 ITV became ITV1 and the ITV regions were merged so they all now fall under the one overall ITV brand. In recent years ITV have not broadcast many exciting sitcoms however during the 60s and 70s the channel was broadcasting many of the "must see" comedy series. The company's digital channels ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 sometimes show sitcom repeats. Channel 4 (C4)
Channel 4 does not actually produce its own programmes but commissions work from more than 300 independent production companies right across the UK.
