SERIES 2 - First broadcast 2000

1. Destination: Royston Vasey

Is that the sound of a whip cracking in the darkness? Welcome to Royston Vasey for the second series of The League of Gentlemen. Papa Lazarou brings his Pandemonium Carnival to town and discovers that the locals are even stranger than he is. But so begins his quest for wives to add to his collection.

Restart officer Pauline has been sacked from her job at the Job Centre following an undercover investigation by Ross, and turns up as a job seeker to face her replacement, the formidable Cathy Carter-Smith.

Meanwhile, Harvey Denton's new pet toad seems to have mysterious powers.

2. Lust For Royston Vasey

Guten tag, und welcommen to England! Is he misunderstood or a creepy pervert? German teacher Herr Lipp brings a coachload of schoolchildren and a dictionary of double meanings from Duisberg to Royston Vasey on an exchange trip. He is immensely looking forward to staying with Justin, the young, brooding schoolboy, but is not so keen on his mother Bobby.

Bitter Pauline and her gormless sidekick Mickey both get jobs at Burger Me, the local fast food joint, and Pauline seeks her revenge on evil Ross.

Dr Chinnery attempts some dental work on an inguana but is not successful to say the least.

And Benjamin, having spent some unwelcome time in the Local Shop, is being nursed back to health by the Dentons in that unique way only they know how.

3. A Plague On Royston Vasey

It's stock check day at the Local Shop, and Tubbs and Edward are delighted to discover they haven't sold a thing. Discussion turns to their son, David - who is now most definitely local - they decide that he needs a bride.

Pauline and Mickey have been sacked from Burger Me after their misdemeanour was caught on camera, and have a nasty confrontation with Ross at the Job Centre.

Demon butcher Hilary is outraged when Maurice brings his wife to a top secret meeting - the special stuff is for men only!

4. Death In Royston Vasey

What day is it today? Why, it's Nude Day of course! Benjamin's life at the Dentons takes a turn for the stranger when he wakes up to find the couple naked, and they insist that they join him in the weekly tradition. Are they trying to make him appear mad? A poor dog suffering from awful flatulence is causing problems for Chinnery.

5. Anarchy In Royston Vasey

The awful ordeal at the Job Centre continues. Pauline is holding Ross hostage but no one has noticed. All Mickey wants is a tuna sandwich. Or a fire engine!

Faded Seventies rocker Les McQueen discovers his old band, Creme Brulee (Eurovision contenders, don't you know), have reunited... but without him. Lead singer Tony Cluedo doesn't hesitate to take Les's savings, but fails to live up to his promise of welcoming Les back into the band with open arms.

Edward and Tubbs venture down from the shop to the supermarket. But this is no ordinary shopping trip - they are shopping for a no-tail (wife) for David.

Maurice arrives at the butchers shop, panicking about health inspections. What exactly is the nosebleed epidemic sweeping Vasey? And why are Maurice's wife's sandwiches at the booth suddenly a must-have snack?

6. Royston Vasey And The Monster From Hell

Vasey has been plunged into chaos. The nosebleeds are everywhere and the Army has arrived... it is like a plague has taken over.

David's bride has been chosen - it's Barbara the transsexual cabbie - but the big day is overshadowed by the bleeding orafices.

The police have a pretty good idea what is causing the deadly problem though, but the panicking locals decide to take matters into their own hands, misunderstanding what Benjamin means about the Local Shop.

The locals set fire to the shop and, as it burns to the ground, Edward and Tubbs slow-dance to their demise.
