Alex - "Can't Wait For The Second Series" I thought Green Green Grass was fab, haven't laughed at a comedy so much for ages, every episode was roll on the floor funny!! I thought some of the episodes were even better than OFAH. I have all OFAH on DVD, I'm 20 and followed OFAH for a long time - can't wait for the second series of Green Green Grass!!! Fantastic work mister Sulivan. Written by Alex, 17th June 2006 Daniel - "Not as Good as OFAH, but Still Funny" The Green Green Grass is certainally nowhere near as good as Only Fools but it is still funny. I think John Sullivan should put a bit more work into the show as it doesn't quite measure the heights of Citizen Smith or the classic Only Fools and Horses. Written by Daniel O'Rourke, 25th Feb 2006 Scott - "Better than I expected" Although I'm a big fan of Only Fools and Horses, the last few episodes were awful and I haven't been impressed with the rest of John Sullivan's recent output. So I wasn't expecting a great deal from The Green Green Grass. However, the first episode was pretty good, with a fair amount of funny moments and John Challis and Sue Holderness obviously enjoying themselves in the lead roles. At the same time, some of the supporting characters are a let down, in particular, Boycie and Marlene's teenage son, Tyler...the country bumpkin stereotypes could also soon become irritating. The other main problems are: a.) Boycie and Marlene work best as walk-on characters in Only Fools and Horses rather than in their own sitcom and b.) the fish out of water plot doesn't look like it has legs. These quibbles aside, the first few episodes have been more hit than miss, although, as mentioned, I don't see this being a long running show, but rather two or three series at best. Written by Scott Thompson, 30th September 2005 James - "a bit disappointed" Having been a great follower of John Sullivan for sometime (due to Only Fools) I have been a bit disappointed with his new sitcom. The first episode was very good, with the usual Sullivan magic and setting up the characters but I have to say that the second episode was quite dull, which missed the great Sullivan twists and turns. I feel that setting a sitcom in the sticks was a costly error (limiting his use of characters etc, which have been very stereotypical anyway). I think maybe if he moved them again to say, Spain with a bit of a sexy beast theme would liven the show up a bit more and get maximum use of his excellent characters Boycie and Marlene. Although the cost of production in spain could play a part! Written by James McCloskey, 20th September 2005 Jonathan - "Laughs are a bit thin on the ground" I have to say this is rather disappointing, but by no means unwatchable. Laughs are a bit thin on the ground, although it is getting a bit better. I think there are two main problems:
There is, of course, also the remarkable similarly (both in theme and title) to "Grass". I might add that the accents of the locals are generalised West Country rather than Shropshire, but this was no great surprise - I doubt if anyone at the BBC would know a genuine Shropshire accent if they heard one.
