"Drop the Dead Donkey", a sitcom set in a TV news room, ran for six series from 1990 to 1998. A character-based situation comedy, it picked up on topical news issues of the day and is as hilarious and relevant now as when it was first aired.

Considered one of the pivotal situation comedies of its time, Drop the Dead Donkey was instrumental in the development of many later comedies and is still way ahead of its time by recording in front a live studio audience just hours before transmission. Watching it back the series could have been filmed yesterday though - Iraq is still an issue, TV news is still sensationalist (although hopefully they're not faking the news quite like Stephen Tomkinson's character) and the government is still trying to tax us out of existence.
