Freezing - Series 1 (DVD)

Elizabeth, played by Elizabeth McGovern (Buffalo Soldiers, Once Upon a Time in America) is an American Oscar-nominated actress who was discovered by Robert Redford and starred alongside A-listers like Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Robert De Niro. That was then.
Her husband of ten years, Matt (Hugh Bonneville - Miss Austen Regrets, Notting Hill), isn't having much luck either; he has just been replaced by his assistant at the publishing firm he has worked at for 15 years. As a result - and for the first time in their marriage - Matt and Elizabeth now have to spend their days together at home. Domestic tensions quickly follow as the pair undertake varied (and frequently desperate) attempts to re-launch themselves - all the while fighting off the growing realisation that they are no longer perceived as young and desirable.

Please note that the DVD release has had to be postponed (from an original scheduling of 31st March 2008).

Our Review: In our opinion, Freezing is one of the funniest new British comedy series which has been on TV this year so far (14th March 2008). A very, very funny sitcom which we highly recommend - particularly Tom Hollander's spectacular performance as agent Leon.

Whoops Apocalypse - The Complete Apocalypse (DVD)

Whoops Apocalypse was a comedy series from the 1980s which depicted the frightening and fantastic decisions made by politicians and world leaders as the the end of the world approached. Anarchic, alternative and inspired Whoops Apocalypse was a sitcom ahead of its time and boasted a cast including John Cleese, Jeffrey Palmer, Rik Mayall and Alexi Sayle.

Very funny, and also rather scary. Includes both the original TV series and the film remake.

Perfect World stars Paul Kaye as Bob Slay - a rude, manipulative, selfish marketing executive. The series is aboput the ups and downs of foffice life and what trouble Bob manages to land people in, however, somehow he always seems to come out on top.

Our Review: A truly side-splittingly hilarious show, we really can't recommend this DVD much higher.

Another release of the first series of John Sullivan's other 1980s hit, Just Good Friends.

Penny Warrender is drinking in the pub with a particularly boorish admirer when she bumps into a familiar face from her past - ex-fiancé Vince Pinner. The couple last met on the eve of their wedding five years ago; a few hours later, Vince lost his nerve and drove off into the sunset. Penny still feels bitter at Vince's cowardly behaviour, but finds her affection for him slowly returning, in spite of his assurance that he only wants to be 'just good friends'.

Our Review: We've got no idea what's happening with this new version of series one. It's been rescheduled at least 3 times since first being talked about, so don't hold your breath that it'll be out anytime soon!

A Little Bit of Wisdom - The Complete Series (DVD)

A vehicle for Norman Wisdom that changed its comedic approach: the first two series were individual comedy plays scripted by an assortment of writers, the only constant being Wisdom's buffoonish 'Norman' character. The third series was a traditional sitcom, with Norman - singularly ineligible - just about holding down a job as clerk in a builder's office run by Robert Keegan. Neil McCarthy was Norman's flatmate, while Frances White played Keegan's daughter and Norman's obligatory love interest.

26 half-hour episodes over 3 discs. What more could you ask for?
