User ReviewsBelow are some reviews of "Blessed" sent in by readers of the BSG. As you can see the programme split viewers opinions right down the middle. What did you think of the series? Add your review Karen - "Hysterical" I thought this comedy was absolutely hysterical!!!! Anyone who has had children can relate to this! Brilliant. Hope they make another series! Written by Karen, 20th April 2006 Chris - "Pile of Toss" Sticking two pens up my nose before slamming my head down on a desk is preferable to watching this pile of toss. It also has the distinct advantage of preventing me from accidentally stumbling across this "comedy" ever again. Written by Chris Tindall, 5th April 2006 Ann - "Side Splitting" An oasis in a TV desert! So funny - brilliant characterisation and so true! I really hope that there is another series. Written by Ann Chanas, 19th Dec 2005 Annie - "Very Tasteful" I can't tell you how much I look forward to this programme - and no, I don't have any small children! We just love the characters - every one of them is a caricature of people we know (and avoid!). "Very tasteful" is the new catchphrase in the office! You can tell Blessed fans - they keep humming Morning Town. The Ben Elton trademark rants, brilliantly delivered by Ardal and Mel, are spot on - wish I could memorise 'em! Keep up the good work and hope there's another series (if it doesn't traumatise the child actors too much!). Written by Anne Morgan, 16th Dec 2005 Keith - "So Bad" This sitcom, if the Trades Descriptions Act would allow this rubbish to be called a sitcom, is the worst sitcom I have ever seen. Even worst than 'The Crouches', the BBC's attempt at creating a PC sitcom. This sitcom is so bad, I find it funny in the extreme how this got pass the BBC programme commissioners. The only redeeming thing is the appearance of the bloke off the brilliant 'Peep Show' who must need the money badly to want to appear in this rubbish. Written by Keith Haynes, 2nd Dec 2005 Adam - "Great Entertainment" This sitcom has one obvious fanbase, the 20 or 30 something parents of babies or small children, who are from the show’s perspective probably all shattered and slumped on the sofa in front of the telly after another exhausting day bringing up baby, and therefore give the show a captive (albeit sleepy) audience on a Friday night. From week-to-week it has grown on me, as my wife and I recognise that all the ridiculous scenes of misunderstanding, exhaustion and frustration have at least some (although at times tenuous) basis in reality, such as the increasingly desperate ‘search for sheepy’, which is of course down to Ben Elton’s wife having had twins. For those without any experience of small children, as one of the characters said (and I’m sure Rik and Vivyan would agree), no one will care. However, it’s great entertainment for those of us who can relate to it, and I’m pleased that Ben Elton has another hit on his hands. Written by Adam Boyden, 30th Nov 2005 Grainne - "Fantastic" I’ve watched Blessed and thought it was fantastic. As a parent of young children, I identified completely with the challenges of two small children. It could easily have been us in that restaurant trying to order a meal or attempting to assemble a double buggy. Funny, well observed and entirely watchable! Written by Grainne McGovern-Scott, 23rd Nov 2005 Scott - "A low point for all concerned" Unfunny snoozefest written and directed by Ben "can you believe I co-wrote The Young Ones and Blackadder?" Elton. Only watch this if you enjoy the sight of teeth grindingly smug, self obsessed middle class couples droning on about the mentally and physically exhausting yet ultimately uplifiting experience that is child rearing. What else can you say about a show where a running gag concerns a character not being able to remember another character's name? Other than... worst British sitcom of the year. Yes... even worse than Meet The Magoons! Written by Scott Thompson, 15th Oct 2005 Christina - "Excellent" I have just watched the first episode of Blessed and found it compelling watching. It had everything a good sitcom should. As a parent and having a workaholic partner, with sleep depravation it summed up our life. Ben Elton has done it again excellent!!!!!!!! Written by Christina Haswell, 14th Oct 2005 David - "Very poor" Very poor, trashy rubbish. I'm very disappointed as Ben Elton is such a talented writer. Written by David Taylor, 14th Oct 2005 |
