Alan Partridge
played by Steve Coogan |
 |
Alan Partridge, played brilliantly by Steve Coogan, is the
definition of embarrassment. Alan is under the impression
he is still a major media star despite having not been on
TV for many years. Everytime he opens his mouth he manages
to make a fool of himself or offend someone, the worst thing
is that he doesn't realise he is doing it. As for his fashion
sense, the less said about it the better!
Having worked his way up from a radio sports reporter Alan
managed to obtain his own prime-time chat show called "Knowing
Me, Knowing You". Whilst presenting that he quickly forged
a strong brand image with his crimson blazer and catch-phrase
"Ah-Ha!". Things went downhill when he accidentally
shot a guest though and he was demoted to an early morning
slot on his local radio station, Radio Norwich. His Carol
wife left and so he moved into the Linton Travel Tavern where
his family became the unlucky tavern staff. After many depressing
years of trying to get his career back online Alan finally
looked like he was moving up in the world when he got a girlfriend
and was promoted to a late-night radio slot and offered an
army based cable TV show.

Lynn
played by Felicity Montagu |
 |
Shy and loyal Lynn is Alan's Personal Assistant.
She comes to see Alan on a daily basis despite the fact he often
abuses her devotion by making her do things far beyond her call
of duty (such as pretend to be his wife). A 50-year-old spinster,
Lynn seems devoted to her employer, praising him constantly,
putting up with his incredibly insensitive comments and carrying
around a selection of medical supplies to alleviate his various
ailments (including flaking skin and fungal-infected feet).

| OTHER CHARACTERS |
 |
Glenn Ponder (KMKY only)
played by Steve
Brown
Glenn Ponder played the opening and closing music on Alan's
"Knowing Me, Knowing You" show each week. Although
it was never commented on each week he appeared with a different
house band. It was Glenn Ponder and Chalet on the first show
then Debonair, Ferrari, Savoir Faire, Lazarus and Bangkok.
In the Christmas special he appeared with his Korg M1 Synthesizer.
Alan and Glenn's working relationship quickly soured, Glenn
was fired on the fourth show but still turned up the following
week as he was taking Alan to an industrial tribunal.
|
 |
Tony Hayers (KMKY and I'm AP 1)
played by David
Schneider
Tony Hayers was the BBC's Chief Programming Commissioner
and the person Alan hated the most. He was attacked by Alan
not once, but twice as he wouldn't commission a second series
of "Knowing Me, Knowing You". Much to Alan's delight
Hayers was killed by falling off his roof whilst fixing his
TV aerial.
|
 |
Michael (I'm Alan Partridge 1 + 2)
played by Simon Greenall
Geordie and ex-army Michael was the Linton Travel Tavern
handyman and later, the BP garage attendant. Alan considered
him a friend but had trouble understanding his strong accent.
|
 |
Dave Clifton (I'm Alan Partridge 1 + 2)
played by Phil Cornwell
Rival DJ at Norwich Radio, Dave Clifton, was clearly a better
radio broadcaster than Alan however had the start of every
show rudely spoilt by Alan's put-downs and swearing.
|
 |
Susan (I'm Alan Partridge 1)
played by Barbara Durkin
Susan is the bubbly and friendly Travel Tavern manageress.
Despite Alan's advances and his constantly time-wasting and
boring conversations she holds her cool until the final episode
when she tells Alan how much she hates him (shown left).
|
 |
Ben (I'm Alan Partridge 1)
played by James Lance
21 year-old Ben is the handsome, intelligent, pleasant young
man who does the odd jobs round the Travel Tavern. Alan seems
unaware that Ben laughs at him behind his back. He started
dating Sophie in about episode 2 much to Alan's disgust.
|
 |
Sophie (I'm Alan Partridge 1)
played by Sally Phillips
Sophie is the young, trainee receptionist. She lives in utter
dread of being left alone, talking to Alan, as not only does she find him horrible but she can't
help laughing at whatever he says.
|
 |
Sonja (I'm Alan Partridge 2)
played by Amelia Bullmore
Sonja is Alan's much younger (33 year old) Ukrainian girlfriend.
She works in a coffee shop in the centre of Norwich and spends
most of her earnings on un-wanted, tacky, London themed gifts
for Alan. Sonja is quite gullible, for example she believed
that Bono was a 'close friend' of Alan's.
|
| "KNOWING ME, KNOWING YOU" GUESTS |
 |
With the exception of pop-star Mick Hucknall (who appeared
in the Christmas special "Knowing Me, Knowing Yule"),
all guests on "Knowing Me, Knowing You" were fictitious.
They were played by Rebecca
Front, Doon
Mackichan, Patrick
Marber and David
Schneider.
|
| "I'M ALAN PARTRIDGE" GUESTS |

quite a few of which are by actors from "The Day Today"
