Acting Up ACTING UP

SERIES 1 - First broadcast 2006

1. Porn

Rick's not happy with his assistant Sue - she may be great at bringing the work in... it's just a shame she's got no morals! Fortunately, neither have the actors, so when sleazebag Tony Le Clair rolls into town looking for voiceover artistes for his blue movie, everyone's up for it. Well, nearly everyone...

2. Stationery

You've seen the Honda ad? With the choir? Well, Rick's latest job is going to be just like that. Except it's for a corporate promo. And there are fewer people in the choir. And the budget is tiny! So it's going to be rubbish.

3. Robots

A sleek, futuristic advert with an android suit made by a Hollywood company - that's the vision. And this is the audition: "Stick the cardboard box on your head and pretend to do some hoovering". So who gets the job? The best robot? Oh no...

4. Motherhood

Client Rosie is looking for an actress to perform a realistic chilbirth scene in an advert, but Rosie's expecting her first baby too! She's a bit nervous; so, what better way to calm her nerves than to sit in a room full of screaming actresses accompanied by Rick's graphic descriptions of childbirth?!?

5. Caveman

Three years' training at drama school, touring the country in Shakespeare, and soul-searching modern plays... and for what? A prehistorical soup advert where they want you to 'grunt deliciously', that's what! Oh well, at least the money's good!

6. Geezers

Ken 'Scissors' McNeil is a violent ex-con, looking for actors to be in his very own East End gangster movie. It's not very good, but nobody's going to tell him that - he's called 'Scissors' for good reason. Rick just tries to get through the day with his organs intact; method actor Jay though has a worrying plan up his sleeve to help him land a part...
