About "Acting Up"
'Acting Up' goes behind the scenes at a casting agency where world-weary Rick Hucknall and his sardonic assistant Sue try to find acting talent for all manner of jobs: low-budget regional adverts; East End gangster movies; corporate videos; even adult entertainment! It's certainly not glamorous, and for Rick and Sue, it's just a job. Rick's been doing this a long time, though he does inject a little enthusiasm into the sessions. Sue is good at her job, but she can't stand bloody actors. As for the actors themselves... for some, acting is everything; for some the auditions are an escape from their soul-destroying 9-5 jobs; and for some of the other actors... well, nobody's quite sure what they're doing there! Hitchcock once referred to actors as mere cattle; but some of Rick's clients don't even think that highly of them. They want Brad Pitt, but they only have a small budget; they turn up with terrible ideas and lame scripts and blame it on the actors; and most of the time they don't really know what they're looking for. What makes this sitcom notable is that is has been created by director Craig Castell, producer Ian Sandall and writers Miles Moss and Steve Swift without the support and financial backing of a production company, yet despite this the production values are very impressive. We're hoping that this is indeed a pioneering new way of creating and viewing original British comedy! Maggot.tv certainly think so - a second series is currently in pre-production. |
